A Calendar Life
Life is Like a Calendar...
Ah... how true are these words? We can only live for today; this moment. Fretting about what happened the day before does not benefit us as there will be no do overs. So, let's make the best out of what God has presented us with today! Life has certainly changed for us these past few weeks, especially since our Governor issued the stay at home order for all Virginians this Monday. This is definitely a new normal for so many people. Keeping a schedule and incorporating mindful tasks can help us from falling into a quarantine slump. Each day we hear new updates on the status of COVID-19 across the country and globally and honestly, it can be anxiety-inducing with all of the changing information coming at us 24/7.
Asides from telework and new homeschool responsibilities, there are some things we can do throughout the day to break up the monotony and keep our minds and brains active and healthy.
Exercise - Staying active is really important regardless of what's going on in the world (ahem...pandemic). Taking some time in your day to walk, run, ride a bike, do yoga or a fitness routine you can do at home is good not only for you physically but helps to combat depression and anxiety.
Mindfulness - When things start to seem too overwhelming, practicing meditation is a helpful tool to have in your back pocket. There are many great apps that offer free guided meditations focused on many different problem areas - anxiety, frustration, depression, sleep problems, and more. These are some of my favorites - Calm, Insight Timer, Saatva (now offering Premium features free for the next month), and Gaia.
FaceTime/Zoom/Skype - Schedule online chats and face calls with friends, neighbors and family so that you still get that interaction we've been lacking. It's a great way to stay connected. Also, check to see if local paint and sips are doing any virtual lessons. You can pick up supplies from the shop and have a virtual lesson at home! Wine and Design in downtown Fredericksburg is offering virtual classes for anyone in the Stafford/Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania area.
